Praia d’El Rey Golf & Beach Resort
Opened in 1997 and designed by Cabell B. Robinson, Praia d’El Rey is the course that put the Silver Coast on the golfing map. It is a par 73 that alternates between coastal dunes, umbrella pines and open ground.
Several holes look straight out to the Atlantic and, on clear days, to the Berlengas islands. The wind is part of the design: the same hole can call for a long iron in the morning and a wedge in the afternoon.
The course is the centrepiece of a 220-hectare beach resort with a five-star Marriott hotel, beachfront apartments, a spa and half a dozen restaurants.
